Kegerreis Scores 1,000th Career Point as Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Rolls

BLOOMSBURG- Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) reached the 1,000 point plateau, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 78-47 victory over Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday night.

Kegerreis becomes the 17th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, moving past Vicki Bell (1990-1993), who scored 990 in her career.

Bloomsburg and Goldey-Beacom traded baskets over the first seven minutes of the game before Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) hit a three-pointer to give Bloomsburg a 14-11 lead with 12:58 left in the first half. That would key a 10-2 Bloomsburg run to give the Huskies a 21-13 advantage with 8:13 left in the first. Goldey-Beacom would claw to within seven points before a Stephanie Jones (Philadelphia/Manor College) three-pointer and a Monica Dennison (Zion Grove/Hazleton Area) put-back would extend the lead to 34-22 with 2:31 left in the first. The Huskies would take a 36-26 lead into halftime.

The Huskies would begin the second half on a 14-4 run to extend their lead to 50-30 with 12:36 left to go in the game. Newcomer Emily Brown (Phoenixville/Villa Maria Academy) connected on a three-pointer to push the Bloomsburg lead out to 20 points, 50-30. Bloomsburg would out-score Goldey-Beacom 22-12 over the next ten minutes to take a 72-42 lead with 2:44 remaining.

The Huskies spent the last two-and-a-half minutes feeding the ball to Kegerreis, who would not be denied her 1,000th career point. She reached the mark on a pair of free throws with 16 seconds remaining in the game.

Gallagher finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for Bloomsburg, while Dennison returned from injury to score 10 points and nine rebounds. Arielle Alford led GBC with 15 points.

The Huskies, now 3-1, travel to Wilmington, Del. where head coach Bill Cleary will take on his former team. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
